how to organize your pinterest boards

organizing my Pinterest boards?  I know right?  my daughter Nikki informed me that mine .. were .. in need of improving

i am all over the organizing frenzy that happens in January aren’t you?  i know you are because everywhere I visit I read someone is organizing something

and lets admit it that when things are organized we feel lighter – are less stressed and are able to function better.  I know I am!!

one of my goals for this year is to organize every inch of my home and computer (since I work from home an spend a fair amount of time on it)

so lets get on with Pinterest shall we?

I have listed some reasons why organizing your pin boards might be beneficialfeel free to add more reasons or helpful things you have learned in the comments

really good reasons to organize you Pinterest boards

::change cover photos

::delete multiple pins

::delete pins in a wrong category

::delete boards that were no longer needed/necessary

::re-name my boards * cause when i began i had no idea what i was doing

::make it easier to pin because it is all alphabetized

::easier to use when need a board for a project

Here is how you alphabetize your boards.  See the button next to the EDIT PROFILE button..kinda looks like a little SD card?  I have a black arrow pointing to it. click that.  Then you can move each board around.  Cool right?

ok done that?

proceed to place them alphabetically by clicking on each boards EDIT or the big EDIT PROFILE button.

I had some boards that I wasn’t using and a few like from my sisters wedding that were no longer needed so I deleted those.

YOU can also change the title, delete the board, select categories, give a description and mark who can pin.

I went through each board and changed each title to lower case letters…just a personal preference.  You can do whatever you love!
now I am in the process of changing each of my boards cover photos.

Now some of you may say this is trivial and time consuming and you could be very right:) BUT
I know now that it has helped me feel so much better about my Pinterest boards since I really do use Pinterest on a daily basis.
Now everything is alphabetized and so much easier to pin than having to scroll down dis-ordered words

starting this month I am going to do a monthly post on DE-CLUTTERING my life.  We will start with once a month..if it wants to expand it can but for now–baby steps.

I am giving myself 2 goals each week to de-clutter.  No hurry – I have a busy life and lots of other responsibilities so this is manageable for me.

This week my two goals are

the hall closet
kitchen cabinets

I will take before and afters and all the details when I post.  I of coarse will Instagram it first….lol so you can follow us at

you are welcome to join me if you want–

let me know if you make your Pinterest pretty….happy weekend friends….xotiff

  1. I love this idea! I also like the idea of picking 2 things a week to organize. Perfect way not to get to overwhelmed.

  2. I cleaned out my boards and alphabetized them a while back…it took a while, but it was worth it…everything is so much easier to find.

    Happy Organizing!

  3. I’m in an organizing mood too. Started with my Studio…three days in and not done. Amazing how the mess becomes much worse before it gets better.

  4. Tiff:
I sure hope you have an answer to my question. I know it can be done, but I cannot figure out how to do it.
First, let me thank you for the help yesterday. I cleaned up my Pinterest a bit. It looks so much better.
OK………how do you add something to your Pinterest board that has not already been photographed for Pinterest?
I have two things in particular. My sister, in CA, rescues dogs. The little guys that are in dire need of being rescued. You can see her listed on my Pinterest “Hollys Garden Rescue”. She has some YouTubes that I would love to my board, but I can’t figure out how to do it.
The other place I need some help……is in listing my FAV blogs! I have so many people ask me what blogs I read, faithfully, and I know I should be able to list their link and header. How in the world to do this? Do you know? I am LOST!
I’m brand spanking new at having my own Pinterest and I am a little “challenged “.
    Thanks SO VERY MUCH!

  5. I just tried alphabetizing my boards but after I click the edit profile button and it says to drag your boards to rearrange them, the boards don’t move. I’ve tried doing this using spas fair, Google Crome and the Google browser and I can’t move my boards on any of them. I’m using an iPad. Do I have to be on a regular desktop or laptop to rearrange them? There’s no, “edit profile” button on the Pintrest app.

    1. I’m having the same problem. Trying to move boards on my iPad and nothing happens. Am trying to move group boards out of prime positions. Please help.

  6. Is it possible to categorize items within a board? I have a “card’ board. It has Christmas card ideas, birthday cards and so on. I would like all of the cards on this board to be separated where all birthday cards are together, Christmas cards are together and so on. I didn’t want to make separate boards for each, as I feel I may loose my likes and repin count. Any help you might share will be appreciated.

  7. Hello there! This is my first comment here so I just wanted to give a quick shout out and tell you
I truly enjoy reading through your blog posts. Can you recommend any other blogs/websites/forums that cover the same
    topics? Thanks a ton!

  8. Great post! I also do not have edit profile on my Pinterest. There is is an icon to edit but it doesn’t have an option to alphabetize. What am I missing?
    Thanks, Tracey

  9. Hi, I’m seeing your post in January of 2014. Pinterest has changed and I cannot use your information to organize my boards. I’m searching high and low both on Pinterest and off to find a way to alphabetize my boards. Do you know how to do it now that the “edit” button and icon beside it are no longer on the page?

  10. I do not have the same kind of edit profile button and no little looking sd card symbol. My Pinterest is not like yours. Hmmm? I love your blog or website.??

  11. Hi!
I just saw something I really want to do. Talk about organizing! I noticed someone had sub-categories under a main title board. Her name is Caroline Paynter. I went to her “deliciousness” board to find that below the board’s name (where you can write a description) she had sub-categories where you could click on those! Like, if you just want to look a blackberry recipes, click on her sub-catergory button, “Blackberry recipes”. AND, to my amazement, those where even sub-categorized! I think this would be an awesome way to cut down on so many boards. Sometimes I forget what boards I have! If you know how to do this, please help!
    Thanks so much!
    Cissy P.

  12. How do you organize your boards alphabetically now? They have changed the settings and I don’t see how you can do it now.

  13. I want to thank you for this post. I couldn’t figure out how to organize my Pinterest Boards. I have a novel coming out in October, 2014, so I wanted it to be front and centre, that is, the photos that inspired me in my writing. Best of luck in your endeavours.
