Monthly Archives: September 2012

currently I am…more info than you want to know;)

Eating to Live not Living to Eat

Currently I am eating way processed stuff than I should…like two bowls of cheerios and a poptart before going to bed last night kinda eating and it isn’t even the holidays

which brings me into my health..I have fallen hard of the workout wagon..for two reasons..1) my crazy colon kept me sick for so long I just couldn’t and 2) I am now working and

don’t have the kind of time I used to have.  I am feeling better…thank you colon and I know I need to make time to do some walking.  I still do pushups, squats and ab stuff almost everyday..

and yes I can still rock out 20 man push ups;)

Monday I began a detox of sorts….I am keeping it simple with things like

–eating more whole foods and minimal processed ones

–a sweet treat is now just that…a treat…once in awhile…not after every meal

–water – a gallon a day…I will do an unsweet tea occasionally

Nikki’s lunch at Chipotle’s…a salad with corn and fresh tomato salsa and chicken.  Guacamole for dressing.  VERY good!

Starbucks Shaken Black tea..unsweet for our snack while perusing Target

aren’t these sweet?  I thought they would be good for keeping my food journal in

For the {heart} of Baking

mini apple pies:) I made…

Currently I am  really loving to bake.  I think that originated with Sasha and that fear of piping moment...thank you girlie:)  Did I tell you I am making my sisters wedding cake, cupcakes in November?  I am!  We went shopping for her dress a couple of weeks ago and I think she picked the perfect one.  YES to the DRESS!

I made the best pasta salad … EVER ever EVER please try it… over the weekend.  YOU have GOTTA try it!  Amazing!

Here is the Recipe..

I made those muffins on Pinterest with just two ingrediants ..I am not a fan.  Sorry:(  but hey…it maybe the cook

This creamy Kitchen Aid…for two weeks now I look:)

Time for a MAKEUP change

Currently I am wandering around ULTA to shy to ask for help picking out a shade of new makeup…geesh!  I finally pushed back the fear…excuse me..

and let her try various shades on me.  I have been a faithful MAC user for almost 10 years.  I have cystic acne and have bad skin .. some scarring and such so

I really don’t lie when I it is hard to find a new makeup.  Honestly – nothing looks amazing on my skin…just the way it is but I was hoping to find something that I really liked..

and I did.  I also bought the brush she suggested and I am really happy:)  I am pushing myself to keep changing it up…once your past 40 one can get stuck in a rut and not realize

they are living in the 1980′s still:)

p.s.  she did tell me to wash my brushes in Johnson’s Baby Shampoo? I am ashamed to admit it may have been a year….eek!  but I did do it last week:)

Currently I am chillin at night with my girlies all piled on my bed watching our DVR shows…here are our favorites right now  Dance Moms, Kardashians, X Factor, The Voice, Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders are a few I can think of off the top of my head…oh and Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice just started up last week!  One of our new favs is Married to Jonas…they are adorable.  in a whisper voice i share that we do watch Here Comes Honey Boo Boo…I know.  I just can’t eat when I watch it.

At the Closet

Currently I am in need of clothes that have NOT been painted in…I realized I have not one hoodie that isn’t painted on…so I am in need of a small clothes shopping spree..I want to get some Victoria Secrets boyfriend sweats..ever tried them? they are wonderful!  some Frye Veronica Slouch boots in black ..will need leggings..note to self

these cute little Sanita clogs that are sold out in my size!!  Heard about them from Kel Hampton…and for 25 dollars!  I have no idea where I would wear them but just sayin!

I am on the email list for notification in my size though

some really fun dresses .. like this one below.  Target girls..just in.  I am really really liking the comeback of the 60 and 70′s

and I am really using my Pinboard Big Girl Clothes to put outfits together since I have no natural ability whatsoever!

You are welcome to stop over and take a peek at mine…I would love to follow yours if you want to leave your name and such:)

Candle {LOVE}

Currently I cannot bring myself to burn an 20 dollar candle so I have found some in the 6 dollar range that don’t smell cheap

and I can afford to burn everyday.   I have two favorites that just came in at Wal Mart…the one above and another that is

Caramel Pecan or something…I got this one first and then sweet Janie over at Janie Fox Talks told me of the simmering Apple Cider!  Fabulous…thanks miss Jannie:)

Quotes, posters, thoughts / Gifts

Currently I am making out my Christmas list  - I haven’t figured out what to get everyone yet but I am thinking as much as I can  rom Etsy…  I want to momma’s who have their own businesses.

Did you see this pin?  I thought it was a good guideline to follow?

I am praying for a good Christmas for the kids this year.  Not meaning presents but drama free!  filled with peace and love.  That is what I am praying for.

Currently the  dining/living areas is where we are concentrating on for the most part right now.  I have a few projects in the works that I will share soon.  I distressed all four of the yellow chairs this weekend and

am working on a plan for shelving on the wall where the green dresser is to hold our white dishes we have been collecting.

A Bit of BLOG news

Currently we are having the blog redesigned by Evenpar Solutions!  They are working on it as we speak!

1 way to celebrate fall with the kids

..rain softly falls enveloping us in its blanket of gray.  I call that a perfect caramel popcorn post day don’t you?

I was inspired by Six Sisters story of how their momma made memories to celebrate the turn from summer to fall with

Homemade Caramel Popcorn!  click here for their recipe

My kids are 13 & 17 but who says you can’t start something new…

I was in the mood shall we say to cook and make some memories.  That is one of the best things about being a mom..the ability to control memories

I first began with a text to my mom asking her for her recipe.  I have good childhood memories of her popcorn balls.

After some searching she sent me this recipe.  I wasn’t so fond of the word oleo…eww gross … so I opted for Six Sister’s recipe.

but I did add mom’s optional vanilla.

to keep it real here – I am not the best cook but I must say that lately my baking has been turning out pretty darn good!

which is not good because I am detoxing myself off of sugar!!  craziness if you ask me

my sweet sweet daughter Nikki was up for another photo shoot and I think she captured it sweetly….

now you know we didn’t drink the milk don’t you?  ok…just makin sure.  It is called staging they tell me.  Ok whatever…

Nikki cut a simple brown lunch sack and hot off the stove we poured it in

and ate ( burning the fingers so watch out ) way to much.  It really was good:)

OK — 2 tips

first tip  when your kids are as old as mine you must make sure they are home when you do this little family activity!  It ended up they both

had other engagements…sad face for momma but they did enjoy it when they came home and I did feel somewhat like

June Cleaver

I got to bring some to my mom

second tip  Once it is cooled a little pour it out onto some wax paper or something to let it dry…breaking it up into individual kernels the best

you can.  I made the mistake of leaving it in the bowl and it hardened that way and I literally had to hack it out

maybe next time I will show you that photo…make a DIY food gone way wrong

anyway – I have loads of dishes and laundry to do and orders to finish.  Grace has a little friend coming over after cross country and I want to make

a little snack for them.  Be watching for her homecoming day fun.  Her school colors are orange and black and this is

the perfect time of year to make some fun stuff

oh and one more thing...  My mom is giving away a pair of her curtains on my blog very soon…so stay tuned:)

Are you working on becoming comfortable in your own story?  smile…me too:)

my story..your story..and keeping it real

no more pretend stories, dream stories, blame stories, quitter’s stories or even vicarious stories..

just MY story

I’ve had a fascination with story since I was 9 and when I heard Jesus say to Peter “‘ as for you’”

my heart caught and  trembled.  I too…was being taught.  That is one thing I feel strongly about is always

being willing to change AND then teach my children out of my life.

Peter turned around and saw behind them the disciple Jesus loved—the one who had leaned over to Jesus during supper and asked,
“Lord, who will betray you?” Peter asked Jesus, “What about him, Lord?”
Jesus replied, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? As for you, follow me.”  ( John 21:21-22)

I wonder if story is mysteriously planted at conception?  My birth through childhood until now has been the ‘”soil of my story “where characters were introduced and plots and story lines around me played out

it was in this environment-my unique environment that my story began…

I can remember loving to read and write..I have a passion to help people realize they are not stuck..they are not a victim of their fight help others know that God loves them are just a few but what if these passions I’ve had since I can remember are really…not so much “characters” as gifts..meant to help me write or be the inspiration to create?

To become my story within Your Story?  To think I could decorate a house or build and paint signs…I laugh out loud thinking of it.
It seems otherworldly..surely not in my previously written story and I wonder if that is why Sarah laughed?

Because what if I finally dug deep enough into the center of my soul..where holy and human touch and something mysteriously happened that once for all

the veil has been torn away from my eyes and I can see!  Do all epic stories originate here I wonder?

All the past .. all the wounding and pain ..  it all can be used as a catalyst to bring us to the breaking point of breaking away

And the day came

when the risk to remain tight in a

bud was greater

than the risk it

took to bloom

-anais nin

I am learning ( key word! ) that to begin to write my real story..the story I am meant to live I had to acknowledge my reality.  Remember no blame stories, no pretend stories, no quitters stories, no dream stories and no vicarious ones either.  I think that pretty much takes care of it doesn’t it?:)…ugh!

I can be a victim for as long as I want…if I wanted.  But I don’t – I’ve fought for years trying to figure out what was keeping me stuck.

For years that became my identity but deep down I wasn’t comfortable with that..I knew in my heart there were bigger things..healthier things..if I could just trust and step out into an unknown and say goodbye to the victim identity and embrace

the woman that God knitted together in my mother’s womb and believe all that the Bible tells me of who I am

believe believe believe and when I fall down to get back up again..and I did that only His grace hundreds of times.

I can so shout this from the rooftops

that when I began to trust who I am in Christ..that I am loved past present and

and practice that in my daily life..things began to change.  Inside and outside of me.

and what just brings me to my knees time and tie again is God’s love..His faithfulness  is that my children

have seen God work miracles..todayi..not just those written in the Bible but in our everyday lives.  THAT makes everything worth it that they see

I had to be able to acknowledge the truth about my life to receive grace, strength, joy, patience and so on.  God gives grace for truth not lies, blaming, pretending or quitting

does that make sense?  I’m rambling….

it was then that the process

of my grace adventure began.  It was still some years until I was at the point to be willing to give it all up so as not to remain tight in the bud

Looking back over the landscape from where I’ve..we’ve ( the kids and I ) I can see more clearly some purposes in things.  God has honored me.. honored my heart.  It hasn’t been the god awful

end of the world letting go that I feared for so many years.  Someday I hope to share…I am sure there is a purpose in this time too.

God gave us these stories and you know what we do?  We look at everyone else’s don’t we?  We

wonder why our story isn’t like theirs and our story just doesn’t matter like theirs therefore I must not be as special.  Some of the most amazing gifted and giving people stories are

from hearts that lived horrific brutal stories..the difference is they didn’t let those stories ruin them..they redeemed them.

and that is my heart if for nothing else that my children are able to be free from some of the unhealthy family dysfunction.  History tends to repeat itself that is why I believe it is so important that as I learn what is healthy that I teach it to the kids because when you don’t know you can’t do something different.

I pray they see that God is still very much alive and

longs to and and give them a new life so that they can make good choices and not have to walk down painful paths like their momma.

This is the home we now live in.  If I were able to go buy new furniture .. have contractors come in here and just get all of this remodeling done in a few months I betcha!

I’m not ever going to have that kinds of my reality.  And that is ok. ( most days .. wink!)

As long as I am open for the adventure ahead and not missing what God has for me..not missing MY story..that is what matters for eternity

that is something my children can take to eternity too..

so if you take anything away from this post at all..if you get this far:) is

live YOUR story!  there is a reason..even though you may not see it..for the why of things in your life right now.

Heck!  I am learning to love where I’m planted and trust God has a darn good reason for it and in the past I’ve tried to help Him out

only to end up making a huge mess of things.  He really doesn’t need me to be HimHe needs me to trust..boy has that been my word this year!

Stop worrying about Susie, Ann, Joe and Jack’s stories..that is wasted energy that could be used on your story.

Someone needs your story!

Father God enlarge the place of our tent .. stretch out the curtains..spare not!
Lengthen the cords and strengthen the pegs.  Spread us abroad to the right and the left that
our children and our descendants will possess the land and resettle desolate cities…amen

thank you for listening to my ranting:)

will you join me in becoming a wee bit more comfortable in our own stories?:)

a Fall Mantle to conceal a tired old fireplace was your weekend?

isn’t the beginning of autumn delicious?

we made homemade caramel corn to kick off the first weekend of fall..
made pumpkin muffins, put a few fall touches on our mantle, watched high school football, went junkin, bought pumpkins,
snapped some pictures, perused Target, Grace spent the weekend with Nana on the farm,
we are busy planning family outings to the Carolyn’s pumpkin patch & Shatto Dairy next weekend

we all have fall fever around here

nikki & I were sooooo blessed reading everyone’s grateful comments..there isn’t anything better than hearing hearts of thankfulness!

The grateful sign giveaway is open all week so be sure to stop by and leave a comment to enter to win…winner announced a week from today

This will be the first of many House Giveaway’s!  Be watching for Octobers giveaway on October 24!  wonder what it will be?:)))

We are putting a whole new face on this tired fireplace soon .. in the interim we gave it a white coat of paint and put an old barn door up we had.

For simple and inexpensive easement into fall we re-purposed ok…stole a mirror from Grace’s room and placed some produce on either side

and hung a wreath and called it good – for now.

Cause you know why?  In blogland people are like a kid in an ice cream store..they put everything on their sundae and eat every last bite

and then are bemoaning that they ate so much…so fast.

I don’t want to be that little kid..I have learned this about myself that if I put holiday decor up so soon – I am sick of Christmas before Thanksgiving is even here

So we are taking it very slow around here..I want to enjoy the season and not live in the next one..just yet:)

last night we did buy a big bucket of yellow mums that we put in a galvanized bucket and put inside the fireplace so it

isn’t a gaping black hole!

look at what my mom made us — that sweet little chevron throw…what do you think?
it is adorable… it is lined in a creamy flannel and edged in ruffles.
It would make a perfect blanket to lay little babies on for tummy time.
Looking at these pictures I am going to have to budget for two rugs before winter…those new floors look naked!

we are realizing our little house is starting to look like a home…at least in these two rooms.  Soon the green dresser will be replaced with some shelving that I

am going to build and we need to slipcover the furniture and mud the walls and repaint…but you know what?

it is a start!  we are moving forward..

tomorrow is the day!! oh is going to be SO hard but if I can make it — this time next week I will feel good!!

now do tell….

what 2 things did you do/or not do this weekend that you enjoyed down to your toes?:)

Happy Autumn..isn’t it a delicious time of year?  to me it is a pulling toward the home again.  On the heels of summer when we are all out and about autumn beckons us home again.

Preparing us for the winter…time to begin gathering.

We wanted to share our heart with you and thank all of you for stopping by and sharing your heart in words.

In our Love for People Everwhere Fall Table post were were asked where we got the cow paintings ( post coming on the cows ) and our GRATEFUL chalkboard.

Nikki & I were having a pow wow on what words we wanted in the dining room this fall and after many a not that one..mmm maybe

we both heartily agreed on these words

turns what we have

now what to put the words on..finally!  the perfect use for this old window frame leftover from our space at RE.

Off I went to cut and paint a board ( with chalkboard paint ) to fit inside after knocking out all the glass of course

and we chalked the words on and then dolled it up a bit with hooks, clips and an old cheese box ( all of which we had around the house)

hey Karianne…maybe we could add another store to the “side of the road store”… Bargain Basement?

whatcha think?

 the wise woman’s first two stops before hitting Home Goods, Target, Marshall’s and TJ Maxx { wink wink }

We had so many emails asking where we got it and suggestions that we ought to make it a sign

and so we did and are offering it to you…our sweet friends

being content with what we have is a truth that one needs to practice like breathing..and a truth our family has been working on….hard!

The really cool thing about this sign is you can keep it up all year because one doesn’t need to be grateful only at the holiday!

- here is what you need to do to enter to win the Grateful sign

leave a comment telling us one thing you are grateful for — that’s it girls.  Super simple.

oh…and tell your friends on Facebook, INstagram and Twitter will ya?  pretty please:)

thank you ever so much

hugs and happy Saturday

Giveaway ends at midnight next Saturday September 29.  We will post the winner on Monday September 30!
